USS HANCOCK CV/CVA 19 ASSOCIATION

Operation "Phone Card"

Thanks to YOU this project is at Full Steam!

Yellow ribbons tied around trees, and red, white and blue stickers on the backs of our cars saying "Support our troops" are things that make us feel good, but do nothing for the men and women actually in uniform. So please consider the following:

THE NUMBER ONE REQUEST at the various hospitals treating our Afghansistan & Iraq War wounded is for Phone Cards!

The government doesn't pay long distance phone charges and these wounded servicemen are rationing their calls home..

Many will be there throughout the holidays, in many cases far from their homes and families.

The Hancock Association Board of Directors has approved a donation of Phone Cards to various hospitals. This is where
Max Pate and Wayne Erven come in. They will collect the money, purchase the cards, and get them to the people in the hospitals. They need an endless supply of these phone cards. Any amount, even $5.00 is greatly appreciated. We are able to purchase 2 hour cards for about 3 cents a minute.

Latest Purchase Stats:

Total MCI Phone Cards, THE USS HANCOCK TEAM has purchased is, 952 cards – 114240 Minutes, 1904 Hrs and 79 Days of talk time..

Hooyah to all of you!!

Let's not forget our Troops, around the world! The national military morale mail / pen pal campaign that combines mail from thousands of patriotic Americans from coast to coast (in order to "spread around" the mail from each person as well as to provide mail from many different places to each unit), boosts the morale of our service men and women at more than 1,000 places all across the U.S. and around the world.

It does not clog up the military postal system, and does not mooch off the taxpayers in order to prepare the mail to be sent out to those 1,000-plus places!

In the absence of any discernible efforts on the part of the established organizations, concerned Americans began "Vietnam Mail Call" in 1965.

Military Mail traces its roots back to that time. The same dedication and spirit of sacrifice still motivate Friends of Our Troops to continue those efforts today.
